![]() The problem I had in my original post was not totally solved but I did manage to get around some of the problems you are having. Checked the signature of both softpaq's and it's valid so file hasn't been tampered with - HP just released at least 2 BIOS softpaq's that are more or less useless, unless I'm missing something? It seems like the softpaq is missing a file but then I tried downloading the previous version and similar files, no ROM.CAB. I should be able to (very easily) update the BIOS from a USB drive and I don't know why I can't. I insert the USB drive into the HP laptop and go into BIOS settings and enable the BIOS update on restart, restart and it comes up and says the update failed. I launch the utility again and it works and it builds my USB drive. Agreed, there is no ROM.CAB included in the files, where is it? Why is it missing? I then tried renaming the "68SCF.CAB" file to ROM.CAB as this looks like it's the updated BIOS file. I run the HPQFlash utility, accept the security warning and then I get following error: "The system BIOS update file (C:\SWSetup\sp77971\ROM.CAB) is missing or corrupt. So I go to the folder where the softpack contents were extracted to: C:\SWSetup\sp77971 and I've attached a screenshot of the folder contents above. Everything I've seen or read on HP's site states that an app should open giving me the ability to create a USB drive or at least provide instructions on making one myself (which has been the case with previous HP BIOS updates that I've done). ![]() It just extracts, no program opens afterwards allowing me to create a USB drive, nothing. or other folders (I've tried changing where it's extracted to) and that's it. open the downloaded file, it extracts to a folder, usually c:\SWSetup\sp77971\. I go to the HP website, download the BIOS update (sp77971). BTW I need to update it outside of Windows, no OS installed currently. I'm trying to update BIOS for an HP EliteBook 8460p from F.27 to F.64 and I just can't figure this one out. I've updated the BIOS for numerous different computers (including HP) numerous times and I've never come across something so frustrating. I'm experiencing a similar issue, and I'm almost at a loss of words over this.
